Statutory Declaration   ——

Statutory Declaration

If you are acting on behalf of a friend or relative you may well have to complete a Statutory Declaration giving you permission to receive goods on behalf of the friend or relative. This is quite common as people often travel before the task of shipping goods is complete or goods arrive before they do.

Statutory Declarations need to be signed by you in the presence of a Justice of the Peace (JP). You will need your passport or drivers license if the JP does not personally know you.

Statutory Declaration forms can be obtained from the Post Office who often have an employee who is a JP. If they don't they will most likely know of a person in the locality that can help you. However, if you have a computer or typewriter you can copythe example below to create your own Statutory Declaration.

When you have completed the Statutory Declaration, send it with a copy of your drivers license or passport to Boltt International so we can submit documentation to Customs.

Information provided by the state government of NSW states that: the term "statutory declaration" according to the Interpretation Act 1987, means "a declaration made by virtue of any Act authorising a declaration to be made instead of an oath."

Statutory declarations can follow different forms but the one shown below is acceptable by the Australian Customs.

The words in Italic are those to be filled in to personalise the oath.
