Motor Vehicles, Trailers and Caravans   ——  

• Duty & tax is payable on all motor vehicles except those previously exported from Australia by the shipper, or those of members of diplomatic missions.
• All motor vehicles, trailers and caravans must comply with Australian design rules prior to registration.
• In most cases left hand drive motor vehicles cannot be registered in Australia.
• For customs clearance the owner of the vehicle must be available in Australia at least 5 working days prior to the arrival of the vehicle and must supply:
  • copy of passport;
  • original vehicle registration papers;
  • original drivers license;
  • original vehicle purchase receipt;
  • written approval to import the vehicle which must be obtained from the Federal Office of of Road Safety in Australia. This approval takes approximately 4 to 6 weeks and must be obtained prior to shipping.
• To meet AQIS requirements please ensure that ALL SOIL is removed from the vehicle (including underneath the engine, gearbox, differential, wheel arches and ALL INSECTS are removed from the radiator/grille prior to shipment otherwise steam cleaning and quarantine re-inspection will be ordered by AQIS at additional cost.
• A temporary permit must be obtained from the relevant police department once duties and taxes have been paid. This permit will allow the vehicle to travel to a registered repairer in order carry out any work required to meet Australian standards. After this work has been carried out the vehicle will have to be inspected by the relevant authorities who will issue vehicle registration plates.
